DIRT ROAD PAVING PROGRAM
In Fiscal Year 1992/1993 the Lee County Commission established the Dirt Road Paving Program. This program is funded by the 5-cent state gas tax that was passed in 1992. Each year this tax generates approximately $500,000, which is divided among the 5 County Commissioners based upon the percentage of dirt roads in their districts. Since the program was established, the Lee County Highway Department has paved approximately 165 miles of dirt roads.
The Lee County Highway Department paves on average approximately 10 miles annually.
Currently the Lee County Highway Department maintains 192 miles of dirt roads throughout the county.
Each year the County Commissioners choose the dirt roads in their districts that they would like to have paved. If a citizen would like to have their road considered for paving, they need to contact the County Commissioner for their district.
The roads that the Commissioners pick are placed on the Lee County Paving Priority Agenda and paved after the required Right-of-Way is acquired.
