Help Support Our Troops

Bolt one on for the troops today!

Sign up at your local tag office.

Please go to your tag office and fill out the application form. Once they have collected 250 state wide, they will ship the first 250 and commence normal statewide sales. We must have this done by November 30, 2007.

The extra cost of the Support Our Troops! specialty plate is $50, which benefits the charitable activities of Support Our Troops working to assist Alabama active duty troops and their families.

Don't worry about your renewal month. Act now. The Department of Revenue provides that this sign up is revenue-neutral to you no matter where you are in your renewal cycle.

Don't worry about your renewal month. The Department of Revenue rules provide that this precommitment sign up is revenue-neutral to you no matter whether you are in your renewal cycle. When you sign up and pay $50 at your tag office you will be given an original of a voucher for the Support Our Troops! plate. You then simply wait and submit the voucher to them at your normal renewal month and they will give you the plate at that time.

But it is critical to sign up now, because if everyone mistakenly waits until their renewal month to sign up, we will not get the required 250 precommitment signups for the Support Our Troops! plate at the tag offices before the October deadline. And if we do not, the plate will fail and will not be issued, and will not exist for the troops and their families to be bolstered and assisted by it.

If once the plate is issued you decide you want to turn in your voucher and bolt the plate on, say, six months before your usual renewal month, you can. You will not pay more registration fees at that time. You will still pay your registration fees in your normal registration month each year.

Example: You go to the tag office in August and pay the $50 and obtain your voucher. Your usual renewal month is in June. In December the Support Our Troops! plates have been manufactured and you take your voucher in and they give you your plates. The $50 will be due again in June, which means that you gave $25 more to the troops and their families in order to get the plates on six month earlier to show your support for them.

The important thing is to meet the 250 precommitments so that plate is manufactured and made available by the Motor Vehicle Division in the normal manner to everyone.

Please help us help them.

They've gone half way around the world to Afghanistan and elsewhere for us. Let's make a short special trip to the local tag office for them.
